We are a pioneering action platform that unites all players across the watch and jewellery value chain and enables them to lead progress and future-proof their businesses in an ever-changing regulatory landscape – towards 2030 and beyond.

Together we empower the change for a better path forward: harnessing multi-stakeholder collaboration to achieve measurable impact in the areas of climate resilience, preserving resources, and fostering inclusiveness.
Founded in 2022, WJI 2030 is a member of the UN Global Compact and signatory of the Women’s Empowerment Principles. In May 2023, WJI 2030 was recognised by the Swiss authorities as an Association of Public Utility.
Today, our team is headquartered in Maison de La Paix in Geneva, Switzerland.

Our mission is to champion best practice and develop joint solutions that create positive outcomes for people and planet as part of the just transition.

We equip members with dedicated resources, education, and the global network to invigorate commitment and take important, interconnected, and measurable actions. Our work contributes to luxury’s critical upgrade for transparent and sustainable value chains. We come together in full force behind a common, action-led vision for the future.

We have built our multi-stakeholder platform with industry leaders, experts in human rights, policy makers, community organisations, academia, and civil society organisations. Our frameworks and roadmaps are based on the Science Based Targets initiative, ESG Book, and the Women’s Empowerment Principles.

The climate cost of doing business has taken on extreme urgency as the effects of severe weather and biodiversity loss have put our future at risk and further marginalised vulnerable communities.

Accountability and trust are integral to the future of luxury. In our global market, transparent supply chains and sustainable production are no longer just an option. They are a requirement. Considering Boston Consulting Group’s insight that the secondhand watch segment is growing faster than the firsthand market and, importantly, that sustainability concerns are often the reason for purchasing a pre-owned watch, it’s clear that responsibility – and public scrutiny – are here to stay.

Strategic partnerships

WJI 2030 believes in a multi-stakeholder platform for engagement. No one can do this work in isolation. Partnerships are at the heart of the initiative.

We recognise ourselves as part of a broader community across industries that seeks to deepen the conversation and taps intothe expertise of change agents to support our members and the wider industry to action and measure progress on climate resilience, on preserving resources, and fostering inclusiveness.WJI 2030 aligns to globally accepted standards, frameworks and regulatory expectations across climate, nature, human rights, gender, and equity themes.

Since the establishment of WJI 2030, we have created a solid multistakeholder ecosystem bringing together small, medium, and large companies from the value chain, important partners such as UN Women, UN Global Compact, and UNITAR, key civil society organisations, industry associations such as BJOP and CIBJO,and academia and expert partners (ESG Book, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte) across each pillar.

UN Global Compact

Since August 2022, WJI 2030 has been a non-business participant of the UNGC and an active advocate for the 10 principles surrounding human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. In partnership with the UNGC, WJI 2030 created a curated learning space in the UNGC learning academy – the UNGC Solutions Lab.

This strategic collaboration focuses on educating SMEs in the global watch and jewellery industry on key topics, including decent labour, human rights due diligence, climate action, biodiversity, and inclusiveness with a focus on gender and intersectionality. The UNGC Solutions Lab aims to provide a harmonised practical education programme with expertise from the UNGC and key stakeholders to guide the sustainability journey of SMEs and enhance transparency and implementation of sustainability throughout the value chain.

Other topics in the UNGC Solutions Lab we are exploring include innovation and technology, which is an opportunity to attract the younger generation to the watch and jewellery industry and incentivise them to train in artisanal and other skills.

UN Women (WEPs Secretariat)

Since launching our partnership with UN Women in 2023, the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 has been applying the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) to drive gender equality in the watch and jewellery industry.

Our initial focus was on gender-responsive procurement, culminating in the first industry-specific case study that assessed nine companies and highlighted progress, challenges, and recommendations on advancing gender equality in global supply chains. In 2024, we expanded our efforts with training sessions for WJI 2030 members and the wider industry, emphasising gender equality and women’s empowerment across the workplace, marketplace, and community.

We are proud to release a second case study showcasing 14 emerging practices that demonstrate our industry’s commitment to WEPs and its role in fostering a more responsible and prosperous society. Today 95% of our members have signed the WEPs. WJI 2030 will continue this strategic collaboration by building an education journey from Activate to Accelerate in the Global Compact Solutions Lab open to the whole industry.

ESG Book

The Reporting and Transparency workstream is crucial for delivering on WJI 2030’s mission, as is the strategic partnership between WJI 2030 and ESG Book. This collaboration aims to build a sustainability reporting framework, augmented by a digital reporting solution, establishing a data hub tool for all Members and beyond. With objectives of enhancing transparency in a step-by-step process and addressing evolving regulatory requirements, this framework will be key to preparing companies throughout the supply chain to be fit for purpose.

UNITAR

In 2023, WJI 2030 in partnership with CIFAL Flanders launched a ‘Start to-SDG’ training programme consisting of three online modules for WJI 2030 Members and their suppliers. The programme has welcomed over 70 active participants, including members as well as their suppliers. WJI 2030 finalised a formal Memorandum of Understanding with UNITAR in January 2024, and is now preparing a pathway or to a curated training programme for the watch and jewellery industry for 2025.

Business for Nature

Business for Nature (B4N) is a global coalition of 100+ influential partner organisations as well as forward-thinking companies. Together, we drive credible business action and policy ambition to achieve a nature-positive economy for all by 2030. Our priorities are to provide the courage, comfort, and technical expertise to governments so that they adopt, implement, and enforce ambitious policies that help create a nature-positive economy, and to scale and speed up business action by strengthening, clarifying, and amplifying why and how companies should act now.
As a partner organisation, WJI 2030 collaborate with B4N to provide support through advocacy, engagement, and outreach, with the common goal of driving credible business action and policy ambition to achieve a nature-positive economy for all by 2030.

Science Based Targets Initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. They develop standards, tools, and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest.
As part of Pillar 1 Building Climate Resilience, WJI 2030 ask all members to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative and start setting goals that contribute to combating the climate crisis.
